Peter Tosh Birthday Celebrations Set For October

Kings of Kings Promotions, most noted for their yearly staging of the “Western Consciousness”, recently announced a stellar linup of artistes for this years staging of The Annual Peter Tosh Birthday Celebration.

Set for October 19^th 2007, the event will be hosted in Westmorland, Jamaica, home ground of the islands world famous white sand beaches, and patrons will be blessed with solid live performances from renowned roots and culture artistes such as Luciano, Bushman, Everton Blender, Etana, amongst others.

Peter Tosh was born Winston Hubert McIntosh on 19 October 1944 in Grange Hill, Westmoreland, Jamaica. A founding member of the Wailers, he later went on to an outstanding solo career, releasing a wealth of material.

Tosh played guitar, melodica, piano and organ on many of the Wailers' early tracks. By 1973, he decided to pursue a solo career. Legalize It was his debut in 1976, remaking many of his earlier Jamaican recordings and giving momentum to the pro-marijuana movement.

Much of Tosh's career was interspersed with skirmishes with the authorities. In 1987 he was assassinated by three gunmen at his home. For years, his memory has been kept alive with a variety of events held both in Jamaica and Miami.

Reggae Tip 2007 was Hot!

On The Reggae Tip 2007 was HOT FIYAH! Hosted by HOT 97's own Bobby Konders and Jabba, the crowd was hyped to see their favorite reggae and dancehall stars. The party officially started at 8pm but people started arriving as early as 4. The line was so long outside of the Hammerstein Ballroom, that it stretched a whole avenue. The crowd was colorful bathed in red, green yellow and black. People were proud to represent their homelands. They were also excited to see artists like Collie Buddz and Mavado but it was obvious that Buju Banton was the crowd favorite. One girl, who had red, green and yellow cornrows and a shirt to match, couldn't wait to get her “dutty wine” and “hot wuk” on. Well she didn't have to wait for long. Gradually the stage began to fill in, the orchestra was standing room only, and the three balcony seats were completely filled. The set was adorned with flags from the Caribbean. Golden Crust catered their signature patties all night. Bobby Konders was mixing the ultimate reggae hits while Jabba got the crowd to represent their boroughs and islands. Brooklyn was representing hard as well as Jamaica. Regardless of everyone's origin Jabba made it clear that we are all “one family”. He also made sure that everyone would be heading straight for all the various after parties that would be going down after the show. Mars 2112 and Avalon seemed like the crowd favorites. However, you didn't have to travel far if you wanted to party.

The audience was decked out in the flyest gear and was dancing to the music like they were already at the club. One of the crowd favorites was “Longing for” by Jah Cure; every one threw up their lighters and cell phones in memorial. At 7pm Jabba ordered the DJ to cut the music. He informed the crowd to expect some special appearances, but the audience didn't need Jabba to tell them that. Whenever there is a HOT 97 event there are always surprises in store. And then it happened. The first surprise of the night was Wayne Wonder, who performed his hits “Saddest Day of My Life” and “No Letting Go”. The next performer was Bermuda native Collie Buddz, who performed a rendition of “Beautiful Girls” by Sean Kingston. Unlike Kingston, Buddz had his girl under control. All of a sudden Mr. Bombastic himself, Shaggy graced the stage teasing the audience with his classic, Angel. He then dropped a verse during Collie Buddz's hit song, “Come Around”.

Power 105 pulls Reggae Carifest sponsorship

Hip-hop radio station Power 105 withdrew its sponsorship of Saturday's Reggae Carifest because two artists on the bill have used anti-gay language in their songs.

The two dancehall reggae artists, Buju Banton and Bounty Killer, have both drawn fire for their lyrics over the years. Banton's song "Boom Bye Bye" advocates burning and shooting gay men; Bounty Killer's song "Another Level" refers to drowning them.

Clear Channel, which owns Power 105 (WWPR/105.1 FM), quietly withdrew its support from the festival on Wednesday after receiving a call from The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (Glaad). Clear Channel did not issue a statement, but on Thursday a spokeswoman noted that Power 105 does not play Bounty Killer or Buju Banton. She declined to say, however, whether that's because of their lyrics or because reggae artists are not regularly featured on the hip-hop station. Read More

Dancehall Superstar Super Cat Evades Trinidad Police

“Man a bad man” or so the saying goes. Popularized in the 90’s by original dancehall bad man super Cat, the “original dondadda” left police authorities in the south Caribbean nation wondering of his whereabouts after a scuffled occurred between himself and the promoter of an event in the twin islands.

The fracas occurred before his appearance at the MOB II club in the Chaguramas province last Saturday night.

It is stated by sources out of Trindad and Tobago that the promoter named “Naipaul”, uttered a racial slur backstage and the wrath of the “Wild Apache” was only soothed after he slapped the promoter several times before pushing him to the floor.

Super Cat then fulfilled his contractual obligations and more by performing 30 minutes over his designated hour, and then quickly walked out the venue mid-performance, disappearing into an unmarked vehicle.

Customs officials confirmed his early morning departure from the island.

Despite his slick getaway, Police authorities stated that the promoter also a prominent business man in the island has not yet pressed charges.

Blizzard Entertainment unveiled the new Starcraft II video game at the 2007 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational event in Seoul, South Korea. Starcraft II features new units and functionality for each race, upgrades to several familiar units, and a powerful 3D engine that supports explosive fast-paced combat between massive armies.


Rumor has it that StarCraft 2 wouldn't be out until the end of next year. My Question to Blizzard Entertainment ...is WHY? I've been such a big fan of this game for years,,,I'm so looking forward to this release.

Jamaica's Anglican church to modernize hymnals with reggae songs

KINGSTON, Jamaica: Songs by late reggae legends Bob Marley and Peter Tosh — both devout Rastafarians — will be included in a new collection of Anglican church hymnals in Jamaica.

Marley's "One Love" and Tosh's "Psalm 27" will be the first reggae tunes to appear in songbooks alongside traditional worship music on the island that gave birth to reggae, said church leaders preparing a new collection of hymns.

Church spokesman Rev. Ernle Gordon said on Friday that members of the Anglican Church of Jamaica were enthusiastic about including the reggae musicians' music in the hymnals, despite their sometimes vocal opposition to Christianity.

"They may have been anti-church, but they were not anti-God or anti-religion," said Gordon, adding that including the songs would help modernize Jamaica's hymnals.

Marley and Tosh, who both died in the 1980s after becoming international music stars, practiced Rastafarianism, a faith founded by descendants of slaves in response to black oppression.

Matisyahu Seeking New Fans On 311 Tour!!

Matisyahu admits that when his manager first suggested a summer tour opening for 311, the Brooklyn-based reggae rapper wasn't sure it was such a good idea. "My manager said, 'No, you don't understand, they have 10,000 to 15,000 that they draw in every market across America,'" he tells Billboard.com. "Supposedly they have a huge draw, even bigger than mine. We don't have a record out or a single out on the radio, so we can do a headlining tour and play in front of our same fans, or we can go out with a band that has fans that probably would dig my music that might not know of me and try to get in front of some new people.

The look of Betty and Veronica hasn't changed in almost half a century, ever since Dan DeCarlo created the modern look for Archie and the Riverdale gang in the 1950s. Now, it's changing again...all thanks to artist Steven Butler, whose clumsy line work should be familiar to anyone who's ever seen the back of an IHOP placemat!

This is prolly old news to some of you,,but OMG its new to me,,I have been a big big,,no (Huge) Fan of the Archie Comic since I could read. Those comic are the reason for my early maturity dammit. lol .
